natural resource damage settlements

Conservation Resources is a non-profit conservation intermediary that identifies land preservation and restoration projects that meet the strict criteria of Natural Resource Damage Settlements. We maintain an extensive database and on-line catalogue of Featured Projects in The Conservation Exchange, which have been screened and pre-approved by CRI to insure that strict eligibility criteria are met.

Dozens of Featured Projects on The Conservation Exchange have been appropriate candidates for funding in connection with settlements of natural resource damages assessed by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). NJDEP has allowed potentially responsible private parties who execute an NRD Settlement with NJDEP to make a financial contribution to CRI for the purpose of funding a specific CRI-Featured Project which meets the approval of NJDEP.

Typically, this has meant that the project must be located in the same watershed or watershed management area where the natural resources damages have occurred, and be of sufficient size and of a satisfactory nature to offset the damaged natural resources. In the event that no currently featured projects satisfied the requirements for a particular settlement, CRI can help identify and screen a specific project to meet the geographic and size needs for a particular pending settlement.
