raritan piedmont wildlife habitat partnership (rpwhp)
forest and riparian conservation plan
The RPWHP’s mandate is to develop project goals that address the specific threats to natural habitats. The project goals are derived directly from the Conservation Actions for the Central Piedmont Plains detailed within the SWAP. Successful achievement of the habitat restoration and preservation goals of the RPWHP Forest and Riparian Conservation Plan will require a comprehensive implementation strategy that addresses the following goals:
- Prioritize tracts for conservation based upon wildlife needs, and maximize the acquisition or restoration of key tracts by public and private partners.
- Address patch size and connectivity requirements of forest birds and other animals within the prioritization scheme.
- Manage and restore public lands to increase habitat quality as identified within the plan.
- Develop an implementation strategy that fully engages local partners including both public and private landowners, as a key part of the solution.
- Boost participation in the applicable federal and state conservation programs including Farm Bill programs and the NJ Forest Stewardship Program.
- Identify key threats to natural resources in the region and appropriate responses to them.
- Develop a monitoring and evaluation plan to measure the project’s progress towards achieving its goals.
